"I'm Raven, Gomez's right hand. Anyone who wants an audience with Gomez, has to get past me first."

Raven serves as gatekeeper to Gomez, introducing himself in the same terms as his right hand and warning that anyone wanting an audience with Gomez has to get past him first. When the Hero arrives claiming Diego vouches for him as worthy of becoming a Shadow, Raven is cautiously approving, saying "if you got all the way here, you can't be all that bad. And we're always looking for good men," before leading him in with a warning not to touch anything.

Once the Hero is formally accepted, Raven has armor and a first job waiting for him. He also handles practical matters: when the Hero brings a delivery of swampweed from Cor Kalom meant for Gomez, Raven redirects him to Bartholo the provisioner, explaining Gomez doesn't deal with delivery boys and that Bartholo can be found near the entrance or in the kitchen, though not at night. Asked about the ore business, Raven reports it is good, and that as long as the Old Mine keeps running, that won't change.
