Milten

"I've never seen so much magic gathered in a single weapon."

Milten is an apprentice of the Fire Mages serving under Master Corristo, the highest Fire Mage, and handles messengers on Corristo's behalf. He notes he is the only apprentice they have taken in since the barrier went up, and that he only earned the position because he did something for Corristo; he adds that a newcomer hoping for the same chance would also have to be a member of the Old Camp and do something to draw Corristo's attention.

When the Hero arrives with a letter from outside, Milten is immediately intrigued, asking if he's a messenger. He presses to see the letter, and when the Hero insists on delivering it straight to Torrez instead, Milten relents with a resigned "gods, you're stubborn," fetching Torrez himself. When he does get to read a letter, he keeps its contents to himself, telling the Hero it's nothing he has to concern himself with. He also handles a separate letter from the Water Mages, promising Corristo will get it and that the Water Mages will compensate the Hero. For routine matters he directs the Hero to Torrez, who is usually just outside the temple during the day and inside at night.

Later, Milten becomes entangled in a far larger plot involving Xardas the demon summoner, the Sleeper, and an orc temple the Hero has found a way into. He reacts with alarm to the news but ultimately helps: when the Hero shows him a weapon charged with power, Milten is stunned, exclaiming "Innos save us... that power," and calls it more magic gathered in a single weapon than he has ever seen. He arranges to teleport the Hero out afterward, worrying aloud about whether the mages will notice.
