Guy
"Well, if you don't mind getting your throat slit for a bloody breadcrumb, it's the place to be."
Guy greets the Hero on arrival in the Colony, introducing himself and welcoming him. Since the Hero hasn't chosen a camp yet, Guy offers a place to stay in the meantime, pointing him toward a free hut by the arena, easy to spot by its red awning.
Asked about the Old Camp, Guy says that as long as you pay the warders their protection money, life is decent; anyone who starts trouble with someone who has already paid gets stomped, and if two paid-up men fight each other, the warders "just sit back and watch" as long as no one dies. He adds that the Old Camp is the only place to get outside goods like bread, cheese, ham, beer, and wine, all fetching high prices since New Campers only have cheap rice swill. Weapons always find a buyer, and proper armor is scarce and expensive, looted by the warders off dead prison guards after the revolt and worn as a kind of banner.
On the New Camp, Guy is far less complimentary, warning it's the kind of place where you can get your throat slit over a breadcrumb. Without Gomez's warders keeping order there, he says only the Water Mages and their mercenaries have the strength to run things, and they care about nothing but their escape plan.
He knows little firsthand about the Swamp Camp, having never gone himself, but has heard the Loons are generous and, lately, recruiting like there's no tomorrow; he suggests asking one of the novices who pass through the Old Camp for details.
