Caine is Cor Kalom's apprentice, introducing himself to the Hero as such and describing his master as important, "veeery important," since he is the master of novices. Asked about his own job, Caine says he helps Kalom with his concoctions, naming potions, swampweed, and dreamjuice, which they make from crawler mandibles.

Pressed on the dreamjuice, Caine confirms Kalom pays well for the ichor it requires, but warns the Hero away from hunting minecrawlers himself, calling them dangerous and hard to kill. He suggests speaking to the templars for more information, specifically a man named Gor Na Drak, who goes to the Old Mine every morning and returns at night.
