"Gomez wants law and order in his camp, and that's what us warders are for."

Bloodwyn approaches the Hero on arrival, warning him that "there's some real bastards in this camp who think they can treat freshies like meatbugs," and offers protection in exchange for ore, framing it as a gentlemen's agreement where each side watches the other's back. He asks for ten nuggets, and if the Hero doesn't have enough on hand, he'll take whatever's available and let him settle up next time. Handing over the ore earns praise and a promise to watch his back from here on out, along with a warning not to get any funny ideas.

When the Hero offers to pay off Jesse's debt on his behalf, Bloodwyn insists the Hero settle his own dues first and dismisses Jesse as a weakling who won't last much longer, though he'll still take the ore if the Hero insists on covering it.

The arrangement then continues: Bloodwyn returns periodically to collect the same ten nuggets, and if the Hero refuses to keep paying, he drops the friendly act, calling it a shame and the end of their friendship, warning the Hero shouldn't expect help next time "those mean bastards come round to knock your lights out and rob you blind." If the Hero insists he can take care of himself, Bloodwyn simply agrees, dryly, that of course he can.
