Baal Kagan
"We call it the Brotherhood, but yes, I am."
Baalkagan introduces himself to the Hero as a member of the Brotherhood devoted to the Sleeper, giving his name as Kagan. He explains he was originally sent by Master Y'Berion to recruit new souls to the cause, but says most men in the Colony "would rather kiss an orc than open their eyes to the Sleeper's truth," so he mostly sells swampweed instead, adding he can barely keep up with the demand.
He complains that the reinforcement sent to help him, Isidro, does nothing but loaf around the lake tavern all day, selling swampweed for rice schnapps, dismissing him as "a drunkard. Good for nothing." Baalkagan asks the Hero to hand out free single herb rolls, appetizers meant to build new customers, warning that losing the herbs or smoking them personally will end their deal. When the Hero succeeds, Baalkagan confirms new clients have already approached him and offers payment in nuggets, Sleeper-imbued scrolls, or help getting the Hero accepted into the Brotherhood.
On joining the Brotherhood, Baalkagan says the Hero will need to win over the higher baals, the gurus, one of whom, Baal Tyon, is a touch arrogant after being consulted by Y'Berion and now refuses to speak to anyone but his own students. Baalkagan offers a smoke roll as a way to make Baal Tyon more talkative. If the Hero wants scrolls instead, Baalkagan offers a choice of three from Windfist, Charm, Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis, and Slumber.
