Baalcadar reacts to the Hero with irritation when approached casually, responding to flattery and requests to become a novice with little more than an annoyed scoff or a tired sigh. He grows more engaged after catching the Hero using the Sleeper's magic during a meditation session, demanding to know who taught him. When the Hero explains he learned it simply by reading a scroll, with no teacher, Baalcadar is impressed despite himself, noting that not everyone can put theory into practice right away and telling the Hero he seems to have a natural affinity for magic.
